Brilliant Garden
After experiencing more than two years of pandemic, the demand for interior design has been adjusted. The focus of life has shifted to staying at home. Tranquility, relaxation, and comfort as the main themes of this design. This residential project is located in the peaceful environment of Choi Fai Garden and the client is a busy young couple who have high requirements for their quality of life. They hoped to pursue a space filled with sunlight and a natural, simple lifestyle.
The design is based on space planning, using different ceiling heights and materials to create spatial variations, and focusing on daily functions and flow to enhance the use of natural light. The kitchen, originally cramped and separated from the dining area, was reconfigured into an open kitchen, which became a showcase space rather than just a purely functional room. The light from the living room naturally spills into the kitchen, extending the boundaries of the space.
Upon entering the low-ceilinged foyer, the light from the pendant lamp inside the shoe cabinet lit up the Japanese cement element behind it, presenting the owner's preference for a simple Japanese style. Before entering the dining area, the transitional space that is rarely used in daily life was used to place a piano. The living room uses a half-height TV cabinet and a slender column to create an open space, and a rounded TV cabinet is used to soften the transition from the foyer to the dining area. Sitting on the sofa, one can interact with the wife playing the piano.
Materials such as wood, cement, and creamy white color with texture were used to create a Japanese vibe. In addition to the materials, wooden strips were used as screens to partially separate the foyer and dining area; Japanese-style sliding doors were used to connect the master bedroom and guest room, and the doors can be opened to create a larger master bedroom space, providing future flexibility. The study is equipped with a glass window to increase interaction with the living room and allow light to permeate into the living room.
The master bedroom integrates with the wardrobe and study, and the flow moves towards the window, further absorbing a large amount of natural light, becoming a feature walkway and adding a window seat.
