Prosperous Garden
Our clients Jenny and Terry are a young couple, who enjoy inviting friends and families to their home for movie night. Thus, in terms of spatial planning, we created a second row of seats behind the sofa for visitors. Underneath the seats there are storage for our clients to store things that they do not normally use.
Underfloor storage is very common in Hong Kong apartments due to the lack of vertical storage space, however, it is crucial to use the underfloor storage strategically to reduce the feeling of tightness of the space.
Our client Terry is passionate in collecting antique toys/ figures, whereas Jenny enjoys a clean and minimalistic space. It was a challenge to maintain the balance between their needs. Hence, we decided to place the display shelves behind the sofa and at the corridor so Jenny will not need to look at the toys/ figures all the time while she is relaxing on the sofa.
The main theme of the design is to use an orange-ish timber colour, to create a Zen space for them to unwind at home. Sunlight penetrates through the timber louver curtain and produces an interesting shadows to the space.
